Then and Now
In April 1985, William Newal and Norman MacLeod, along with a group of psychiatry administrators, established the Administrators in Academic Psychiatry (AAP). Recognizing the need for collaboration, they created this platform to address the distinctive challenges faced by academic psychiatry. This association provided a platform for members to exchange ideas and solutions pertaining to clinical care, research, and training.
In 2015, the AAP was rebranded as the National Association of Academic Psychiatry Administrators (NAAPA). Despite the change in name, the core values established in April 1985 remain steadfast.
- Collegiality and mutual respect
- Excellence in leadership
- Personal and professional growth
- Honesty and integrity
- Creativity and innovation
- Continuous improvement
- Diversity and inclusivity
- Sound management practices
